Our first CD was already presented in 2011 and combines a special selection of masterpieces of baroque music, impressionism and original compositions for brass quintet.
The program opens with two early Baroque works by William Byrd and Giovanni Gabrieli, whose artistic polyphony unfolds an impressive brilliance in the arrangement for brass quintet. The journey continues into the High Baroque period with Tomaso Albinoni’s Sonata San Marco and a duet from a cantata by Johann Sebastian Bach.
In addition to these baroque treasures, the CD also contains original works for brass quintet: Viktor Ewald’s Quintet No. 3, which with its romantic charm is one of the most important works for our instrumentation, as well as the energetic “Scherzo” by John Cheetham, which impresses with its liveliness and technical sophistication.
We are particularly proud of our collaboration with the renowned Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra (RSO) of the SWR under the direction of Patrick Strub for another original work written for brass quintet and symphony orchestra: the Quintetto concertante by Hidas Frigyes. This CD offers a varied sound journey through different eras and styles that impressively showcases the versatility of the brass quintet.
